A school bus has been purchased for transporting the mentally retarded ones with the aid of Living with Dignity Foundation, USA. The Bus was handed over to us by General Shankar Roy Chaudhury, President Living with Dignity, Kolkata, in presence of Prabir Roy, President Living with Dignity Foundation, USA. Sri Nirmal Mukherjee, Mayor in Council KMC and many other dignitaries were present during inauguration of the bus on 10th January, 2008. On this eve, the children displayed song, drama and choreography before the dignitaries, parents and visitors.

The foundation stone of a 3 storied building for the home for residential care was laid by General Shankar Roy Chaudhury, President Living with Dignity, Kolkata, in presence of Prabir Roy, President Living with Dignity Foundation, USA on the same day. The building is to come up very soon.

We have acquired a plot of land at 18, Ram Road, Sarsuna, Kolkata - 700061 for construction of our own school building and Vocational Unit.

  Adjudged as the Best Parents Association in India and awarded Premlata Peshawaria National Award, 2006.
 

Behala Bodhayan is working hand in hand with other organisations and helping them in activities like rallies for the benefits of Thalasaemia Patients. Blood Donation Camps, Clean Kolkata Programmes etc. Ranjan Dutta participated in Volleyball Team in the Special Olympics World Summer Games, 2007 held at Shanghai, China in October,2007 and won a Gold Medal for the country.

A Special Medical Camp was conducted in our Special School in association with National Medical College and The Office of the Commissioner for Disabilities on 12th March, 2008. Our own students along with the candidates from other Institutions were screened and issued Medical Certificates and Disability Identity Cards.

Students of Behala Bodhayan participated in Special Olympics at the national level and also in canada and the USA.

 

Behala Bodhayan works for the social integration of the children with disabilities through sports, exhibitions and cultural activities and also lends a helping hand forwards other parents and NGOs working in this fienld.

 

The team of dedicated Special Educators, Therapists, Doctors and Parent Members are playing a pivotal role in turning the lives of the Special Children to a remarkable height.

 

Behala Bodhayan was one of the prime movers of the National Trust Bill and made significant contributions at the Seminar held at NIMH, Securnderabad in june 1997 to chalk out the outline of the National Trust which was later on enacted in the year 1999.

 

The Students of Behala Bodhayan regularly take part in the State Level Games, National Level Games and International Special Olympics for the persons with mental retardation and associated disabilities and come out with flying colours.

 

The students in the Talent Hunt for the special children organized by West Bengal Govt. (Mass Education Dept.) owned the first prize in Drama Competition.

 

Some of the grown-up students trained at Behala Bodhayan, like Sanjay Bhattacharya, Pinku Das etc, are now earning for their families.

...In Individual Level
 

Pinku Das participated in Team India for the Special Olympics for the mentally challenged in Floor Hockey held in Toronto, Canada in 1997. In the U.S he took part in the Handball game for the India Team and brought a Silver medal in 1999 for the Country. In spite of being a person with mental retardation he is a Handball Coach trained by Sports Authority of India.

 

Subrata Ghosh represented West Bengal in the Volleyball Team which won  a Gold Medal in the Special Olympics held in 1998 in Chandigarh.

Raju Kundu won a Silver Medal in handball for West Bengal at the same venue.

Sudeb Kabiraj brought a Gold medal in Football for the State of West Bengal in the National Games held in December, 2005.

 

Ranjan Dutta brought a Gold Medal in Volleyball for West Bengal in the national games held in December, 2005. He is a student with multiple disbilities.
